How do we change? What are the logical steps to success?
Well, the first thing to understand is that there is no single correct map of change at any one time. To survive and thrive you have to acknowledge and embrace that change is happening and put strategies in place to work with it rather than against it. Many of us hold resistance, great resistance to change. We get comfortable and we don’t want to make changes even though they would help us grow and achieve our objectives, goals and desired outcomes. To move forward you have to understand change for yourself as an individual.
What is your perspective?
Depending on what pictures you choose, change can be an opportunity and a positive energy force. Too many people think change is a difficult thing and changing your perspective towards it will help you move forward. So ask yourself this question…what would happen if you assumed the opposite…that change would always be easy?
We have to break changes into manageable steps and to work with it confidently rather than fighting and hiding in a corner with a paper bag over your head or running away screaming for our mommies.
Today we are going to look at logical steps because what I have found out this past week with our boot camp, many of you want to make changes but lack the path to take so we are going to string some things together today.
Everything starts with your why, your purpose, how you indentify with that why and how you define yourself, what your beliefs and values are, what capabilities and skills you have, what your behaviours are and your environment.
So we know that our why has to be strong in order for us to stay in the game when it gets tough. If the why doesn’t anchor us, we will give up. Some people lose tons of money, and time and simply walk away because their why just wasn’t worth the trouble to change. In order to achieve we may have many uncomfortable changes in our patterns, in our thinking, in our language in every aspect of our lives. When it gets a bit uncomfortable we simple walk away because our perspective tells us that change is difficult. We have to have a strong why and be ready to change how we view things to make it easier on ourselves to achieve. Yes, if we just start looking at things through different eyes and hearing a different tune, we can move forward with less drag.
Feeling good in your own skin. The world is my oyster. Nothing fazes me.
You know that feeling – when it is a particularly good hair day, sunshine surrounds you, the air smells clean and fresh, your pants feel a little lose, or you achieve something remarkable. You feel good inside and out. Everything is running smoothly. Congruence with yourself and your environment as well as your path. You are really comfortably on track and consistent. The logical levels of behaviour, capability, beliefs, values and skills are all in alignment. This is the same alignment that has to happen in organizations as well as individuals. If the company is not stacked up correctly the employees will also not follow the path correctly or will have difficulty following.
In Network Marketing, we are building small organizations and if our message isn’t clear, we will have no followers.
Now as we go through periods of change, of stretching and growing we have to expect some misalignment in some areas, we have to expect to feel uncomfortable sometimes. Sometimes we behave in unpredictable ways that are not a reflection of who we are at our core. Certain stressors may bring out our evil twin or we may move to do something that we don’t quite believe in for any number of reasons.
We always come back to who, what, where, when and why in all things whether it be to pursue a personal goal or to create a successful organizational makeup
So we want to take a look at these things and search out where we may not be in alignment and work towards bringing things closer to the center.
Environment refers to the factors which are external opportunities or constraints this answers the questions of where, when and with whom.
Behaviour is made up of specific actions or reactions within the environment this answers the question of what.
Capabilities are about knowledge and skills and the “how-to’s” that guide and give direction to the behaviour. It answers the question of how
Beliefs and Values provide the reinforcement (motivation and permission) to support or deny our capabilities. It answers the question of why
Identity factors determine our sense of self. It answers the question of who
And finally Purpose. It goes beyond the self consciousness to relate to the bigger picture and the mission that asks the question, what for and for whom.
We have to ask the right questions of ourselves to achieve our desired outcome. We are working on breaking habits, forming habits and recentering ourselves. If we don’t have a clear understanding of the answers to these questions, if we are not in alignment, we falter and our starts get stopped. We also have to learn to edit and declutter our lives so we are working with what matters the most and putting things that don’t matter off or eliminating them altogether. Each morning as we enter our day, our first thing to execute should be the one thing that matters the most. If we always question ourselves and what we will gain or not gain by our actions, we live lives with greater purpose and much more satisfaction, fulfillment and prosperity.
I will tell you this – that the why, is always the hardest question and the most important one. When you receive queries about why did you do that? – whatever it might be, rushes headlong into the realm of beliefs, rather than – How do you do that?
Think about answers to these questions and what your gut reaction is
Why are you promoting this business? Why do you want me to join this business?
Compare that to – How did you become successful in your business? What are the benefits to joining your business?
In the first two queries we get the gut clenching reaction and in the last two we are calmer and relaxed, because no one in the last two is questioning our why.
Think about it – Why did you do that? compared to – How did that happen?…two different internal feelings to you right?
So when we talk to prospective associates we want to carefully think through the conversations.
How do you see yourself becoming successful using our strategies and success formula? – Rather than – Why do you want to start a business? What are you going to do with the money? Poke, poke, poke.
Now there are times where you will have to poke the why to get any kind of reaction but we have to have strategies to get to where we want to go and it all begins with our own why. We will be getting into advanced conversation strategies along the way in our company training, but to get good with that you have to be comfortable with all your logical success steps in order for someone else to believe in you.
As you work on creating your habits, is it difficult, are you struggling? Then you have to find out why that is happening. Which part of the logical steps are you missing or what is out of alignment. When you find that step that creaks and shifts as you move across it, you will be finding the secret to making your habit stick like crazy glue.
For change to last we have to know where the change needs to take place…that is a critical step. Often we try to solve issues by changing the logical level, environment or behaviour- when we need to be addressing values, beliefs or identity. The same goes for when we want someone else to change their behaviour we don’t challenge their identity and we respect their beliefs.
So to make any change we have to have the right resources at the right time in the right place. Resources help you and they could be external like people and equipment or internal things like your own experience or way of thinking. You always have or can get the resources you need to accomplish whatever it is you want to do.
Whenever you are operating on levels of change it is important to make sure you get the resources you need in place and every step. To make environmental changes you need the right things and your behaviours have to align. To develop capabilities you will need to have useful beliefs in place. It is all interconnected and we need to ensure we are taking the steps carefully and confidently as we move forward.
Three things need to be in place for change to happen
- What to change
- Know how to change
- Get or create the opportunity to change
Analyze this and come up with a plan to align everything so you make change easier and it sticks with you for all of your life.
Absolute change right to the core of you.
Follow the path as we set forth to change.
